New appointments for Bribery Commission; 7 members for Constitutional Council

Justice and Buddhist Affairs Minister Wijedasa Rajapakse said the members for the Constitutional Council would be appointed next week.

He stated that the approval to appoint 3 civil representatives to the 10 member Constitutional Council would be made when parliament meets on September 22nd or during a following session.

The speaker is officially appointed as the Chairman of the Constitutional Council to be formed under the 19th Amendment. 

Members for 10 Independent Commissions would be appointed after the Constitutional Council is empowered. 

Independent Commissions were introduced under the 19th Amendment.

Among the Independent Commissions are: Elections, Public Service, Police, Government Auditing Service, Human Rights, Bribery and Corruption, Finance, Delimitation of boundaries, National policies and University Grant Commission.

Minister Wijedasa Rajapakse also said that it has been already decided to appoint a new Chairman and new commissioners to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
