The assassination case of Major General Janaka Perera has been transferred from the Anuradhapura High Court to the Special High Court.
According to an order by Justice K. Sripavan, North Central Provincial High Court Judge Dhammika Ganepola has thus transferred the lawsuit to the Special Court.
The reason for this is the establishment of the Anuradhapura Special High Court to investigate all cases related to terrorist activity.
Two defendants are alleged for the assassination of 29 others including Major General Janaka Perera in a suicide bomb attack.
The second defendant who pleaded guilty for the assassination when he was produced before the Anuradhapura High Court on August 22nd, was sentenced to twenty years of rigorous imprisonment today.
The first defendant is remanded for his statement before the court that he is not involved in the assassination.
