No chief Ministers for Western and North-western provinces yet;Provincial council of Ministers also inactive.

So far new Chief Ministers have not been appointed to take up the Chief Minister posts rendered vacant due to the then incumbent Western and North Western Provincial Chief Ministers being elected as MPs at the recent general election.

Although the Western and North Western Provincial councils are scheduled to meet today, a problematic situation has cropped up as a result of Chief Ministers not being appointed to these provincial councils.

However President’s Media Division said that the President would name the Western and North Western Province Chief Ministers this morning before the provincial council meetings.

Provincial Council representatives told our news team that due to Chief Ministers not being appointed the ministries of these councils too had become inactive.

The UPFA provincial councilors held a discussion about this with President Maitripala Sirisena last afternoon.

Government sources said that even after this discussion held at the Presidential Secretariat until now Chief Ministers had not been appointed for these provincial councils.
