Opposition and TNA Leader R Sampanthan’s statement that it is not objectionable if the public requests a global investigation as to the war crimes which occurred in the country, has raised different opinions among political parties. He made this statement at a media briefing held in Trincomalee. He said that the unreliability of local investigations has led the public to request a global investigation.
The SLFP stated that R Sampanthan is upto requesting a global investigation under the cover of the public.
However UNP MP Ajith P. Perera, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs said that local mechanisms have already been strengthened to conduct an internal investigation.
New Democratic FrontLeader Minister Mano Ganeshan said that local investigations lost their credibility due to the procedures of the former government.
Freedom Party MP Lakshman Yapa Abeywardana said that however no global investigation about Sri Lanka will take pace in future.
