It is significant that several SLFP MPs who worked closely with former President Mahinda Rajapaksa also received State and Deputy Ministry portfolios in the National Government yesterday.

Post, Postal Services and Muslim Religious Affairs Deputy Minister Dulip Wijesekera said that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has given his nod for accepting ministry portfolios in the national government.

Deputy Minister Wijesekera said so while expressing his views to media subsequent to accepting his deputy minister post yesterday.

Similarly T. B. Ekanayake who stood strongly for former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and even played a leading role in bringing him to Kurunegala too accepted a state minister post.

 In addition several MPs who had shown strong support towards the former president such as Dilan Perera, Sumedhaa Jayasena, Lakshman Wasantha Perera, Nishantha Mutuhettigama and Nimal Lansa also took their oaths as state and deputy ministers.

MP Nishantha Mutuhettigama who was sworn in as Harbour and Naval Affairs Deputy Minister also expressing his views after accepting his post of Deputy Minister stated that he will be partial to the former President in the future as well. He also mentioned that he will cooperate with the current party leader and work for its progress.
