President Maithripala Sirisena has given instructions to officials to provide speedy relief to people displaced due to the Moragahakanda and Kalu Ganga Projects.
The President said so while participating at a meeting held at the Mahaweli Development and Environment Ministry yesterday for reviewing the progress of programmes implemented under that ministry.
On this occasion the President inquired from the officials with regard to additional allocations and other physical and human resources required for the Moragahakanda and Kalu Ganga projects.
Issuing a communiqué the Presidential Media Division said that the Government promised to provide the resources required for completing the project within due time frame without any hindrance.
President Maithripala Sirisena also instructed relevant officials to present a work plan including proposals to minimize the use of polythene and plastics.
He advised them to present recommendations on low-cost alternatives for asbestos.
The President gave these instructions at a discussion on the progress of the programs carried out under the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment, held yesterday at the Ministry of Environment.
He directed the officials to take speedy actions to provide drinking water to the victimized people in the areas where the water sources have been dried out due to Uma Oya project.
