According to an Indian newspaper report, TNA has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government to support conducting an international investigation with regard to alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka.

The Telegraph newspaper further said that TNA has requested India to extend their support for an international investigation during the forthcoming UN Human Rights session.

The report also showed that the Modi regime will need to make a difficult choice between India’s traditional ally – TNA and India’s new ally – the new government of Sri Lanka.

The newspaper reports that leader of TNA R. Sambanthan has expressed  during a telephone interview with The Telegraph, that they would request the support for an international investigation on alleged war crimes in Sri Lanka from the international community including India.

He has also stated that, according to their experience the recent domestic investigations conducted with regard to the matter have not been independent.

However, the US is due to present a resolution during the UN Human Rights Council session extending their support for a domestic mechanism in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Affairs Minister who will be flying from Geneva to India is scheduled to join the Indian tour of Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Meanwhile, ITAK Parliamentarians M.A. Sumanthiran and S. Sridharan have also left for Geneva and are expected to participate in the sessions.
