India’s The Hindu newspaper reported that the U.N. probe report on alleged war crimes committed during the final phase of the battle against the LTTE has been handed over to the Sri Lankan government.

The report, scheduled for public release during the 30th Session of the UN Human Rights Council which kicks off next on Monday in Geneva, was received by the government last night.

The presentation of the report was deferred until this month by the UNHRC as a goodwill gesture towards the government of President Maithripala Sirisena.

The Hindu quoted sources saying that Sri Lanka has five days to make its response in writing.

The report and Sri Lanka’s response would be submitted at the UNHRC session only at the end of this month.
