24-Hour Hotline to Report Child Abuse

Chandrani Bandara, Minister of Women’s and Children’s Affairs stated that necessary steps will be initiated to tighten the laws against child abuse.

She also stated that she intends to transform the existing rules and take necessary actions immediately.

Mrs Bandara claimed that necessary steps will be taken to activate the hotline for reporting child abuse throughout 24 hours.

Accordingly the hotlines 1929 and 1938 for informing about child abuse and abuse of women respectively, are due to be activated for all 24 hours.

Earlier these hotlines were active only from 8.00am to 4.00pm.

Minister Chandrani Bandara revealed this expressing her views to the media after assuming duties of the post of Minister of Women’s and Children’s Affairs yesterday(15th).
