The joint Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Rajitha Senarathna says new laws must be introduced in order to work with the persons who were appointed to top positions of government institutions during the Rajapaksa regime, and still enjoy such positions.

Answering a journalist, Minister Senarathna stated this during the media conference held at the Information Department to inform the Cabinet decisions today.

Journalists questioned the minister about the behavior of the Attorney General with regard to the incidents of Avent Garde and instituting charges against Gotabhaya Rajapakse and Kumaran Padmanadan alias KP.

Meanwhile, minister Senarathna said that the Cabinet has approved to extend the time period of the Colombo Port City Project agreement by another 6 months.

At the same time, all ministers of the new government have pledged yesterday to respect the collective responsibility of the Cabinet.

The relevant proposal has been submitted to the Cabinet by President Maithripala Sirisena when the cabinet met yesterday.

In addition, a committee comprising of Cabinet ministers was appointed yesterday in order to create a code of conduct which should be followed voluntarily by each minister.

The proposed code of conduct is to be compiled within one month before it is submitted for Cabinet approval.
