Gallows is not the solution to curb crimes: says Human rights activists and intellectuals
There is much talk in the society to implement the death penalty following several incidents where children were subjected to abuse.
President Maithreepala Sirisena stated yesterday that he will mull over the reinstatement of the capital punishment.
He stated that in order to do so, he will seek the approval of the parliament.
Our news team inquired from several Human rights activists and intellectuals regarding the matter.
Human Rights activists, Attonet At Law, Dr Prathiba Mahanama-hewa stated that implementing the capital punishment can be termed as violating human rights.
Professor Rohana Lakshmna Piyadasa from the Kalaniya University states that implementing the death penalty is not the final solution to curb crimes.
