The Constitutional Council led by the Speaker of parliament met at 10 o’ clock this morning at the parliament complex. 

Parliament Secretary General Dhammika Dasanayake told our news team that the Constitutional Council would draw its attention to appointing members to the proposed independent commissions.

He also said that attention would also be drawn today to the task to be cast on the civil society members of the Constitutional Council.

The Constitutional Council met for the first time on September 10th after the inauguration of the new parliament. 

The Council includes the Speaker, the Prime Minister, Opposition Leader and ministers Wijedasa Rajapaksa, Patali Champika Ranawaka and W.D.J. Seneviratne.
