Appointment of members to Independent commissions including bribery commission before October 15th
The Constitutional Council which met this morning has decided to complete the appointment of members for the Independent Commissions including the Bribery Commission before October 15th.
The Constitutional Council met under the patronage of speaker Karu Jayasuriya at his official residence this morning.
Ministers Wijedasa Rajapaksa, Patali Champika Ranawaka and W.D.J. Seneviratne and Opposition Leader R. Sampandan represented the legislature in the meeting.
The Constitutional Council has taken three decisions during its meeting today.
One of the decisions is to come to a conclusion about the proposed civil society members to the Constitutional Council.
The names of founder of Sarvodaya movement Dr. A.T. Ariyaratna, former Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict Dr. Radhika Coomaraswamy and former Attorney General Shabli Aziz have been proposed to represent the civil society in the Constitutional Council.
The Constitutional Council meeting today has also extended the closing date for entertaining applications for the members to the Independent Commissions.
The Speaker’s office stated that political party leaders, professionals and civil society members can send in their applications for the posts of members for the Independent Commissions.
