The UNP requests that the next local government election be held not according to the Divisional system but according to the proportional representation system.

UNP Deputy General Secretary Minister Akila Viraj Kaariyawasam said that a unanimous resolution was put forward to this effect at the UNP working committee meeting held yesterday.

Similarly a proposal also was put forward for increasing UNP’s women’s representation at future elections up to 20%.

On this occasion the working committee authorized the party leader, the general secretary and the chairman to discuss with other parties about contesting at the local government election jointly as was done at the last general election.

The working committee meeting was held at the Sirikotha party headquarters last afternoon with UNP leader Ranil Wickramasinghe at the chair.
