The first parliamentary meeting after the appointment of the national government’s cabinet takes place today.
Although the maiden meeting of the 8th Parliament after the General Election was held on the 1st of this month, and the Parliament met afterwards on 3rd this month, the national government’s cabinet had not been appointed by that time.
Today after parliament meets at 1.00 p.m. obtaining of approval for civil activists nominated for the Constitutional Council will take place first.
Dr. A. T. Ariyaratne, Dr. Radhika Kumaraswamy and former Attorney General Presidential Counsel Sibili Azees are the civil members nominated for the Constitution Council.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is scheduled to make a special statement in parliament today about the steps being taken at the UNHRC these days.
Meanwhile the JVP is due to present an adjournment proposal to the effect that political intervention in the recruitment of government officials must be prevented.
