President Maithripala Sirisena stated that every necessary action will be taken for the control, prevention and eradication of drug use while the laws regarding the raid of drugs will be tightened. He further asserted that all obstacles which authorities had to face during the exploitation of their powers and the execution of law will be removed and a positive atmosphere for everybody to perform their duties with confidence and resilience will be created.
The President made this statement addressing the assembly at the 64th Anniversary of the All Ceylon Excise Sergeants’ and Guards’ Association held yesterday at the New Town Hall in Colombo. It is the intention of the government to operate the institutes which bring in revenue for the government such as the Excise Department, Inland Revenue Department and Customs free of fraud and corruption. The President also said that he would never stoop to such practices as calling those institutes representing businessmen.
In the interim the presenting of a souvenir and emblem to the President marking the inauguration of the Maritime & Naval Week took place at the President's House yesterday.
