The Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya has objected to the proposal made by the Transport Ministry to introduce a layoff to reduce 11 thousand 535 extra workers of the Sri Lanka Transport Board.

SLTB needs only 25 thousand workers to run its services but it has to maintain 36 thousand 535 workforce.  Ministry secretary Nihal Somaweera said minister Nimal Siripala de Silva has already proposed the Treasury to introduce a layoff to reduce the extra workforce of 11 thousand 535.

When contacted media spokesman of the Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya Sunil Silva said that his union is against the layoff proposal.

However Secretary of Sri Lanka Nidahas Pravahana Sevaka Sangamaya Thilak Wickramasinghe said that his union would support the move in the event a reasonable compensation is paid.
