The mother of the student who was arrested for Seya Sadewmi murder, demands compensation from police
The mother of the school student who was arrested and remanded in connection with the murder of Seya Sadevmi says that the police department should pay the damage caused by them to her son.
She stated this after the main suspect of the murder was arrested by police.
Meanwhile CID investigating the murder stated that the main suspect confessed to the killing of the child.
Under these circumstances, the mother of the 17-year old student says that justice should be meted out to her son and a compensation should be paid for tarnishing his character.
Acting Police Media Spokesman SSP Priyantha Jayakody explained the criteria followed by police to arrest a person if he or she is suspected for the crime.
Our news team enquired attorney-at-law Prathibha Mahanamahewa about the legal provisions that avail to arrest a suspect in connection with a crime.
He said that a suspect can be arrested on credible evidence even without a warrant.
At the same time, Dr.Mahanamahewa further explained about the legal provisions that are available for victims if they are arrested without any such evidence.
Meanwhile Colombo chief Magistrate permitted CID to detain the main suspect for 72 hours and continue further questioning when he was produced before Court today.
