Heavy showers in several areas tonight; MET Department warns of lightening

Showers or thundershowers will continue at times in the Western, Southern, Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces.


Thundershowers will develop at several places elsewhere towards evening.


Meanwhile, the government stated that any possible assistance will be extended to those affected by the landslide in Lilies Land estate in, Wedamulla – Ramboda, which caused the death of 7 people.


Minister of Disaster Management Anura Priyadharshana Yapa relief assistance is provided to nearly 193 persons currently taking shelter at the Ramboda Tamil School.


Meanwhile, it was also reported that Minister of Upcountry Development P Digambaram had visited the landslide stricken area.


However, on his way back Former Minister Arumugam Thondaman had also met him face to face in their vehicles and traffic was obstructed for nearly half an hour.


Former Minister Thondaman had said that his vehicle had broken down and however the road was cleared shortly.
