A certain group has set fire to a portion of the 20 km electric fence being constructed from the Bundula -Wilmanna sanctuary up to Modara Paelessa.

The Bundala National Wild Park officials said that 17 concrete posts that had been set up for constructing the electric fence too had been destroyed.

A Bundala National Wild Park spokesman told our news team that while the Wildlife Department was constructing the electric fence for containing the wild elephant menace recurring frequently in the area, some persons were against the move alleging that their own private lands too were being misappropriated in constructing the electric fence.

However Wildlife officials have also lodged a complaint about the incident to the Tissamaharama police.
