The Irrigation Department states that the Ging River is still at spill level and that therefore minor floods could be expected.

Director of the Aquatic Science Unit of the Irrigation Department Prema Hettiarachchi said the water levels of Nilvala and the Kalu rivers are receding.

The highest rainfall within the 24 hours upto 8.30am this morning which is 105mm has been recorded from Nochchiyagama in Anuradhapura. A rainfall of 104.4mm has been recorded from Poddiwela Farm in Galle.

The MET Department stated that heavy rain above 100mm shall be expected today in other regions of the island as well.  The MET Department advises the public to be vigilant since high winds and lightning can accompany heavy rain.
