A baby elephant about one month old which had lost its way in Elaris Wewa in Thenuwara, Karuwalagaswewa and had been caught by villagers was handed over to the Veterinarian Unit at Pandulagama, Anuradhapura by wildlife officers.
According to the villagers the baby elephant had been crying for its mother which it had strayed away from.
Wildlife officers including Wildlife Inspector of Karuwalagaswewa Lakshman Rohitha made an immense effort to transport the elephant to Pandulagama. It was observed that Janaka Balasooriya, the Divisional Secretary of Karuwalagaswewa had also joined in feeding water to the baby elephant.
