Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, who is on an official visit to Japan, will address the Japanese Parliament today.

Only two state leaders have been given an opportunity to address the Japanese Parliament in its history.

The two leaders are Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barak Obama.

Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has proposed to establish an active group comprising high ranking Ministers and Officials to further strengthen the relationship with Sri Lanka.

The Japanese Prime Minister had echoed these sentiments when he met with visiting Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on the sidelines of the Science and Technology Summit in Kyoto yesterday.

The two leaders have decided to appoint a working committee to upgrade bilateral relations between Japan and Sri Lanka.

The committee will comprise top level ministers and officials from both countries.

The Prime Minister will hold discussions with Sri Lanka Business Cooperation Committee and Japanese Trade Organizations.

He is also expected to hold another round of discussions with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe tomorrow and call upon Emperor Akihito.

Prime Minister Wickremasinghe will sign several bilateral agreements with Japan.
