Police says that STF security has been provided for the Yala Sanctuary and Wildlife Offices around it. 

Reports say that a STF unit comprising 40 officers has been deployed for security of the Katharagama Wildlife office.

The Tissamaharama police said that in addition, police STF officials had also been deployed for the Katugamuwa, Kochchipathana, Mandachchiya and Panama wildlife offices.

A person was killed in a shooting carried out by Wildlife officers to a group of persons who had gone hunting in the Yala wildlife sanctuary.

The police said that the wildlife officers had shot at these armed persons in self-defense when the visiting group was preparing to shoot at the wildlife officers.

The deceased is a 33-year old resident of Waedihitikanda in Kataragama, two persons with firearms were taken into custody at that time.

Meanwhile the Tissamaharama police arrested the wildlife officer who had allegedly carried out the shooting, produced him before court and remanded him till tomorrow.  

Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera told our news team that police STF personnel have been deployed for consolidating peace in the area.
