Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasingha addressing the Japanese Parliament a short while ago stated that Japan has a special role to play in the reconciliation and economic development of Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe stated that Japan will give maximum support for the measures taken by the new Sri Lankan government to build national reconciliation.

Sri Lanka – Japan bilateral discussions today; PM to address Japanese Parliament. 

Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, who is on an official visit to Japan, will address the Japanese Parliament today. 

Only two state leaders have been given an opportunity to address the Japanese Parliament in its history.

The two leaders are Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Barak Obama.

He is also expected to hold another round of discussions with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe today and call upon Emperor Akihito.

Meanwhile, Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Fumio Kishida yesterday pledged his government's fullest support to Sri Lanka in its efforts to create a new country through good governance and technological advancements.

During bilateral discussions with the Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo, the Japanese Foreign Minister praised the new government's efforts to restore the confidence of the international community and commended the government for adopting a non-partisan foreign policy again.
