Former minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon was remanded today till October 20th for allegedly shooting and killing one person and injuring another in 1999.

The former minister Tennakoon was remanded by Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya after the Magistrate inspected the suspect who sought treatment at a private hospital, this morning.

Police Media Spokesman ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that the Magistrate also ordered to produce the suspect before the Matale Magistrate on the day of the next hearing.

He also said that steps would be taken to hand over the suspect to prison authorities from the custody of the CID.

Chief Magistrate inspects Janaka Bandara who is under CID custody

The Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya inspected former minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon this morning who is currently in a private hospital under police arrest. 

Later the Magistrate has informed the CID to submit a report to Court about the medical condition of the suspect.

MP Tennakoon was arrested by the CID yesterday in connection with shooting a person to death and injuring another person at Dambulgamuwa in Matale in 1999.

MP Tennakoon was earlier informed to report to the CID last Monday.

He ignored the CID call and instead admitted to a private hospital yesterday evening.

The Police Media Spokesman said that the CID arrested MP Janaka Bandara Tennakoon in hospital in connection with the alleged murder.
