Former DIG of Vavuniya, back in remand custody

The former DIG of Vavuniya U K. Dissanayka and a police inspector who were arrested on charges of treasure hunting have been kept in remand custody until the 21st of this month, after they were produced before the magistrate of Vavuniya, V. Ramakalan.

Meanwhile, 7 other suspects, who were also accused of being involved in the incident, were released and instructed to pay a fine after they pleaded guilty.

However, former DIG U K. Dissanayka and the police inspector have not yet admitted to committing the crime.
