Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasingha returned to the Island this morning concluding a successful official visit to Japan.

The Premier called upon the Emperor of Japan Akhito yesterday at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo 

Sri Lanka and Japan have agreed to deepen cooperation in multifaceted fields under a 'Comprehensive Partnership' to benefit both nations.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe have reaffirmed that the strengthening partnership between the two countries can contribute to prosperity of the two countries as well as the Pacific and Indian Ocean region.

Prime Minister Abe hosted a summit meeting on Tuesday with the visiting Prime Minister Wickremesinghe at the Prime Minister's Office.

The two leaders attended a ceremony by the guard of honor and then held a summit meeting.

Following this, the two leaders attended a signing ceremony and held a joint press announcement.

Considering the importance of economic growth and development of Sri Lanka, the two leaders have decided to particularly focus on taking initiatives in Promotion of Investment and Trade, Cooperation on the National Development Plan in Sri Lanka, and National Reconciliation and Peace building.
