The Navy informs that the fundamental investigations revealed the existence of weaponries in the Avant Garde ship which arrived at the Galle port.
A senior spokesman in the Navy further said that weapons were not mentioned in the information provided prior to the arrival of the ship.
Also the previously provided information had claimed that a Sri Lankan captain is on board the ship, which was proved false since the ship was navigated by a Ukrainian captain.
The ship authorities have informed that the weaponry brought by the ship are due to be handed over to the firm Rakna Lanka.
The spokesman further said that the Sri Lankan Navy is allowed to go and inspect the ship since the Sri Lankan flag was hoisted in the ship.
However the Navy has commenced a special investigation due to the contradiction between the information provided earlier and what was revealed after empirical inspection.
Hiru News’ attempt to contact Major Nissanka Senadhipathi, Chairman of Avant Garde Security Service who owns the ship to obtain information failed as he did not respond to the telephone.
However on our inquiry, a senior officer in the organization said that no statement can be made regarding the incident as yet.
