22 houses built for estate workers under the 100day program of the UNP government are ready to be handed over to the public.
New Infrastructure and Community Development Minister Palani Digambaran says that everything is ready by now to hand over the newly built lone houses of the Mocca estate in Maskeliya to the estate workers.
Each house has been built on 12lakh, in an area of 700sqft, and contains a drawing room, two bedrooms, a kitchen, sanitary facilities, drinking water and electricity etc. Also every house will be handed over with a piece of 7 perch land and the deeds.
400 houses are being built in Maskeliya, Thalawakele, Pudaluoya, Agarapathana etc and they will be funded by the Ministry of New Hillcountry Villages’ Infrastructure and Community Development.
The estate workers say that only the UNP government provided them with houses within the period of 200 years they lived there.
The Estate Superintendent P R Bulathsinghala says that their own estate company is not able to launch such projects and that land could be provided from the estate if any more such projects will be launched.
