New members appointed to 4 independent commissions including Bribery and corruption
Members for four Independent Commissions including Bribery and Corruption were nominated today.
The Independent Commissions were established recently, under the 19th Constitutional Amendment.
The Constitutional Council met under the patronage of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya at the Parliament complex.
10 members of the constitutional council including Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Opposition Leader R. Sampandan also participated.
The Council has nominated three members to the Commission to Investigate Bribary or Corruption, five members to the Human Rights Commission, nine members to the Public Service Commission and seven members to the National Police Commission.
The Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Neel Iddawela stated that the names of the nominated members have been referred to the President for his endorsement.
He also said three members for each commission have been recommended to chair the relevant commission.
Meanwhile, the Constitutional Council is to establish 10 Independent Commissions.
Members have already been appointed to the Judicial Services Commission.
The Deputy Secretary General of Parliament said a decision about nominating members to the rest of the commissions including Finance, Elections, Auditing Services and De-limitation would be taken when the Constitutional Council meets again on the 4th of November.
