A man from Mathugama was arrested by the police in Meegahathanna area but when his attempt of stealing a van miss-fired.

The culprit had gone to the van owner house in Meegahathanna Wediwatte area with an accomplice under the guise of inspecting the vehicle as per an advertisement published in the newspaper.

The owner of the vehicle has insisted that his nephew should accompany them in the vehicle to test drive.

After proceeding a distance the owners nephew was ask to check the rear tire while he was checking the culprits have started the vehicle and evaded with the owner of the vehicle. The owner has been thrown out of the van near Meegahathenna Hospital and they had escaped.

However the police petrol was able to apprehend a culprit at Mathugama Kotaha area with the vehicle on the complaint filed by the owner. Police states one of the two culprit is still absconding.the23year old arrested is a resident of Akuress -Pittabeddara area.
