The Colombo Chief Magistrate allowed the CID today to detain former Eastern Provincial council chief minister Shivaneshathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan until November 4th, and question him in connection with the murder of former TNA MP Joseph Pararajasingham.
The order was issued after Pillayan was produced before Colombo Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya by the CID today.
The CID has informed Court that Pillayan has been arrested under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
The CID also stated before Court that approval of the Defence Ministry would be sought in the future to detain and question former Chief Minister of the Eastern province Shivaneshathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan.
Detained Pilleyan to be grilled further
Colombo Chief Magistrate allows Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to detain and question former Chief Minister (CM) of Eastern Provincial Council (PC) Sivaneshathurai Chandrakanthan aka ‘Pilleyan’ until November 4, Police sources stated.
This order was given considering a request made by the CID.
On October 11, ‘Pilleyan’ was taken into custody by the CID in relation to the 2005 assassination of Ex-TNA Parliamentarian Joseph Pararajasingham.
Pararajasingham, a former TNA MP, was shot dead at St. Mary's cathedral church in Batticaloa, while attending Christmas prayers early morning on December 25, 2005.
