Six Tamil detainees hospitalized after engaging in a hunger strike for 3 days

The attention of the President has been drawn to the hunger strike by the Tamil detainees including several LTTE suspects who have been in Prison for committing terrorist acts.

Minister for National Dialogue Mano Ganeshan told our news team today that the President, during the Cabinet meeting today, has asked the Prime Minister, ministers of Justice and Prison Reforms to discuss the matter with the Attorney General and to prepare a report.

Meanwhile the Prison Department stated the hunger strike at Magazine Prison, Anuradhapura and Batticaloa prisons are continuing for the third day today.

Prison Commissioner General Rohana Pushpakumara said that prison doctors are inspecting the detainees on strike three times a day.

He also said six detainees on hunger strike at the Magazine Prison were hospitalized and two of the Anuradhapura Prisoners were given treatment on the advice of prison doctors.
