Former President Mahinda to appear before the Presidential commission of inquiry into serious fraud

Former Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella also arrived at the Special Presidential Commission to Investigate Large Scale Corruption, Police sources stated.

It is reported that former President Mahinda Rajapakse was also present at the Commission to give his statements.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is scheduled to appear today before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry into Serious Fraud and Corruption.

That is for inquiry with regard to nonpayment of a sum exceeding 200 million rupees payable for former President’s advertisements telecast via ITN during the last presidential election.

Presidential Special Commission of Inquiry into Serious Fraud and Corruption Secretary Lacil de Silva told our news team that in addition to the former President, former Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, former ITN Chairman Anura Siriwardhana and several current ITN management staff too were scheduled to appear before the Commission today.

The first inquiry from the former President with regard to this incident was held on 23rd last month by a team of several Commission staff calling at former President’s Mirihaana house.

Expressing his views to media after the statement on that occasion, the former President had said that payments for his election advertisements were made by the UPFA.

However previously several persons had been summoned to the Presidential Special Commission of Inquiry into Serious Fraud and Corruption for obtaining a statement with regard to the incident.

Among them were former UPFA general secretary Minister Susil Premajayantha, Former Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella, Former Minister Dallas Alahapperuma, former presidential Secretary Lalith Weeratunga and former finance ministry secretary P. B. Jayasundara.

Similarly the special presidential commission of inquiry into serious fraud and corruption also obtained statements from former ITN chairman Anura Siriwardhana and current ITN management staff with regard to the incident.
