Leader of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Anura Kumara Dissanayaka has left for China to attend the Asian Political Parties’ Special Conference on the Silk Road, hosted by the Communist Party of China in Beijing.

Themed “New Vision for the Silk Road: New Action for Common Development”, the conference aims to create a platform for political parties from Asian nations that straddle China’s Belt and Road initiative, to exchange ideas and enhance policy coordination to realize the concept.

The Belt and Road initiative was announced by Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2013, and draws inspiration from the historic Silk Road, an overland trade route between Asia and Europe that was at its peak more than 2,000 years ago.
