Prison Inmates Hunger Strike Spill over to other prisons
The Hunger strike launched by detainees including LTTE suspects who are in prison in connection with terrorist acts is continuing today for the fifth day.
150 detainees of several prisons including Colombo Magazine, Anuradhapura and Batticaloa have joined the strike and nine of them have been hospitalized after their health conditions deteriorated.
Meanwhile the National Movement to free political prisoners staged a Satyagraha in front of Welikada Prison to show solidarity towards the hunger strike by Tamil detainees.
Convener of the Movement Sundaram Mahendran told our news team his movement would continue uninterruptedly the Sathyagraha until the government gives solutions to the detainees on strike.
Northern Provincial Councilor M.K. Sivagilingam and Vatareka Vijitha Thera have also joined this Sathyagraha.
However Health and Indigenous Medicine Minister Rajitha Senarathne said yesterday at the media conference to inform Cabinet decisions, that all detainees who are involved in LTTE activities would be produced before court soon.
