Heavy showers during next week;Nilwala River overflows; Buththala town inundated
The Disaster Management Center has extended the warning of landslide threats in eight districts due to the prevailing rainy weather.
The Disaster Management Center said the warning issued until 8pm last night was extended for a further 24 hours.
The eight districts include Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, Kegalle, Kandy, Kalutara, Ratnapura, Matara and Hambantota
Deputy Director of the Center Pradeep Kodopllai warned the residents of those districts to remain vigilant if the rains continued further.
Meanwhile, due to incessant showers Nilwala River overflowed from Akurassa – Panadugama area.
Monaragala – Buththala town is also inundated due to heavy showers.
Duty Meteorologist H Dharmapriya stated that Heavy falls about 100 mili meters are also likely at some places.
