Gary Anandasangari, son of Tamil United Liberation Front (TULF) leader V. Anandasangarei, has won the new riding of Scarborough-Rouge Park for the Liberal party, beating the Conservatives after the party dropped candidate Jerry Bance late in the campaign.

Gary Anandasangari surged ahead of the other candidates with an overwhelming majority of the vote. Conservative Leslyn Lewis came in a distant second, followed by NDP candidate Rev. Kantharatnam Shanthikumar.

Gary Anandasangari is an internationally recognized human rights lawyer and community activist.

He attended Osgoode Hall Law School, was called to the bar in 2006, and now manages his own firm in Scarborough. Gary has been a passionate advocate for human rights issues, regularly representing Lawyer’s Rights Watch Canada at the United Nations.

He has received both the Queen’s Golden and Diamond Jubilee medals. Gary received the Osgoode Hall Law School “One to Watch” Gold Key Award and the South Asian Bar Association’s Young Practitioner Award.
