MP Dinesh Gunawardana takes the mace demanding a speech for Wimal Weerawanse
The MP in the chair was compelled to adjourn the house for 10 minutes today due to a confusion on the list of speakers for the day.
Minister D.M. Swaminadan was scheduled to speak after the speech made by Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe.
However MP Wimal Weerawansa demanded a speech after Minister Samarasinghe.
When the MP in the chair announced that the opportunity was for minister Swaminadan, the Opposition raised objections.
Later a tense situation erupted in the house and the MP in the chair adjourned the house for 10 minutes.
Our parliament reporter stated that at that juncture, MP Dinesh Gunawardana attempted to take away the Mace.
He also said that the Deputy Sergeant-at-arms intervened at that point and prevented MP Gunawardana.
Meanwhile the U.S. Resolution which was submitted to UNHRC by supporting a domestic mechanism for Sri Lanka was tabled in parliament by Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera this morning.
