The Bingiriya police in Chilaw have arrested five members of a gang engaged in a fraud of printing and circulating forged currency notes of the rupees 5000 denomination.

The police said that at the time of arrest 16 counterfeit currency notes of the five thousand rupee denomination were recovered from their possession.

The suspects had printed and circulated about 700 thousand rupee-worth forged currency notes under three stocks.
