The  police investigations have revealed that the mastermind behind the murder of nightclub owner and Karate master Wasantha Soyza of Muditha Mawatha. Kada-panaha in Anuradhapura is an ex soldier who deserted the Army Special Forces Unit.

Police suspect that a personal feud could have led to the murder.

Eight suspects have already been arrested in connection with the incident and investigations are still going on to arrest the rest of the suspects including its mastermind.

Police said that photographs of 24 masked men have been recorded on CCTV cameras of the nightclub premises.

Meanwhile, police found two owners of city guest houses among the suspects now in police custody.

At the same time, the suspect who believed to have axed the victim is also among the arrested suspects.

Later police found the axe and the burnt pole which was used to hack the night club owner from a thicket in Sravastipura in Anuradhapura.

In addition, police seized three vehicles which had been used by the assailants to reach the crime scene.

8 arrested over murder of Anuradapura nightclub owner

Eight members of the gang, who are suspects in the murder of a Karate champion and an owner of a nightclub in Anuradapura, has been arrested by the Anuradhapura police, the Police Media Spokesperson Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ruwan Gunasekara says.

The initial investigations into the incident have revealed that a personal quarrel between the suspects and the nightclub owner had led to the murder, Police states.

The group of about 15 veiled men who entered the night club had killed its owner by assaulting him with clubs and sharp objects.

The 57-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries after admitting to the Anuradhapura Teaching hospital. Three employees at the night club have also been admitted to the same hospital, following the attack, the police added.
