38 Indian fishermen arrested; 29 Sri Lankan fishermen in Indian custody
The Sri Lankan Navy arrested 38 Indian fishermen and seized seven boats near Katchatheevu island in the Palk Strait, off the coast of Tamil Nadu.
The latest arrests come three days after the Tamil Nadu government announced that Sri Lanka had ordered the release of 86 Indian fishermen, who were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy in the last two months.
Meanwhile, 29 Sri Lankan fishermen along with 2 Fishing Trawlers were taken in to Custody by Indian Coastguard last Saturday.
In the meantime, Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj has informed Indian Fishing Unions that they are taking measures to facilitate the release of 86 fishermen who were arrested previously.
