Former Civil aviation Min. Priyankara Jayarathna summoned before the massive fraud and corruption commission
Former Minister of Civil Aviation Priyankara Jayarathna was present this morning at the Special Presidential Commission of Inquiry on Massive Fraud and Corruption to provide a statement with regard to an alleged financial misappropriation that committed at Sri Lankan Airlines.
The Commission began investigations a few months ago, into this financial fraud which is believed to have occurred in the catering unit of Sri Lanka airlines during the Rajapaksa regime.
Complaints were made to the Commission that the financial misappropriation had been committed on three instances.
The Special Presidential Commission of Inquiry on Massive Fraud and Corruption revealed during its initial investigations that 77 million rupees were misappropriated on the first instance, and millions of rupees were siphoned on two later occasions.
Accordingly, former Civil Aviation Minister and current state minister of Law and Order Priyankara Jayarathna was summoned before the Commission to give a statement with regard to the above incidents of fraud and corruption.
Minister Priyankara Jayarathna and the former Chairman of Sri Lankan Airlines Nishantha Wickramasinghe have been informed to appear before the Commission on the 30th of October.
However, Minister Jayarathna requested the Commission to advance his summons as he has planned to go abroad in the next few days.
