Minister in charge of police must resign; says JVP
HNDA students who were injured during the protest held recently are preparing to lodge a complaint with the Human Rights Commission.
Convener of the Inter University student’s federation Lahiru Weerasekara stated that the complaint will be lodged tomorrow.
Many quarters of the society have condemned the police attack on the HNDA students when they staged a protest in front of the Higher Education Ministry.
Nine students were injured when police fired tear gas, water canon and baton charged the students.
Six policemen were also injured during the incident.
Later police arrested 39 protesting students, and they were released on bail when they were produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate.
Meanwhile leader of the JVP Anura Kumara Dissanayaka during a media briefing held today stated that the Law and Order Minister Thilak Marapana must take the responsibility and resign from the post
