32 more MP’s appointed to COPE, state accounts and public enterprises committees
A proposal to appoint 32 more MPs to parliament committees including State Accounts, Public Enterprises and Public Petitions would be presented to parliament today.
Secretary General of Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake said that the proposal is presented in order to give opportunity for more parliamentarians to represent in these committees.
It is scheduled to increase the number of member of the COPE committee from 12 to 14 while the members of the Public hearing Committee from 12 to 20. Members have already been appointed only to the State Accounts and Public Enterprises committees.
State Accounts and Public Enterprise committees are represented by five opposition MPs each. MPs Vijitha Herath, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Nalinda Jayatissa, S. Viyalendiran, and S. Sridaran are the opposition members of the State Accounts Committee while Chandrasiri Gajadheera, Sunil Handunnetti, Bimal Rathnayake, M.A. Sumandiran and Gnanamuththu Sri Nesan are the opposition members of the Committee of Public Enterprise.
