The 17-year old student, who was arrested in connection with the Kotadeniyawa murder and was later released from remand custody, has lodged a fundamental rights petition with the Supreme Court today.

In his petition, the student has cited that his fundamental rights were violated by arresting and remanding him without any reasonable cause.

Therefore the petitioner has asked for a compensation of 10 million rupees.

The IGP, the Police Media Spokesman and the OIC of the Kotadeniyawa Police Station have been named as respondents.

Our news team contacted Attorney-at-law Udul Premarathna who filed the fundamental rights petition on behalf of the student to comment on the matter.

Kotadeniyawa Schoolboy Files FR Petition against IGP; Claims 10 Million Compensation?

The 17-year-old School boy who was arrested and later released over the death of Kotadeniyawa girl murder case (Seya Sadewmi) today filed a Fundamental Rights (FR) petition against Inspector General of Police (IGP) and five others.

The school boy was acquitted of the murder based on DNA evidence. He alleged that he was assaulted by the police while in custody.
