The Police Commission’s Investigation Officers have been ordered to inspect within a week about the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) drunkard behavior at a karaoke night club at Colpetty.
The Commission’s Secretary N. Ariyadasa Coorey stated to Hiru news that the above order was issued yesterday (05).
The Colpetty night club staff had informed the emergency police the other day that a drunken individual is misbehaving at the night club. It is reported that the police have arrived at the scene and found the individual fallen on the ground due to consuming alcohol.
Further investigations have revealed the drunken individual was the DIG Indu Karunaratne who is in charge of Puttalam area.
The police have escorted the drunken senior police officer.
The complaint was filed against the DIG two days after the incident.
To investigate into the IGP‘s matter an inspection team has been appointed headed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP). Meanwhile the police commission has also been requested to carry out an inspection.
Police Commission Secretary N. Ariyadasa Coorey stated that accordingly the DIG Indu Karunaratne has been summoned to the Police Commission and taken a statement.
However, the Police Commission has decided that it is unnecessary to conduct a separate inspection in to the matter by the Police Commission.
And the IGP has decide to take actions on the report given by the appointed inspection team and asked to speed up the inspections.
Accordingly the reports are ordered to be submitted within a week to the IGP.
