Private sector bus employees of the Southern Province have commenced a bus strike in support of the Aluthgama, Mathugama and Kalutara strikes.

Chairman of the Southern Provincial Private Bus Owner’s Association Chandana Soyza stated no journeys from the Southern Province to the Western Province will take place.

The strike was launched on the 5th of November by bus employees in Aluthgama, Kalutara and Mathugama in a bid to arrest the group of suspects who allegedly assaulted a private bus driver in Katubedda.

Private buses plying from Kataragama, Hambantota, Matara and Galle to Colombo also have refused to operate, sources said.

Chandana Soyza said buses will recommence operations only if the issues are solved.
