President Counsel Thilak Maarapana said that he would resign from his ministerial post of Law and Order and Prison Reforms.

Addressing a media conference held at his residence, he said that he would resign from the ministerial post to assist the on-going investigations with regard to the Avant Garde incident which has brought much criticism in the political field.

During his speech, Marapana said that Police created a scene in the Avant Garde incident to impress the current government.

A tense situation erupted in the Cabinet meeting last week as well as the government parliamentary meeting.

Former Minister Marapana said that he followed the instructions provided by the Attorney General while making his statement in parliament.

Meanwhile, Convener of the Purawasi Balaya organization Saman Rathnapriya joining a media briefing stated that both Thilak Maarapana and  the Attorney General should resign from their posts.
